ActionAid, Afghanistan Launches De-Worming Injection Program to Safeguard Livestock Health in Balkh Province

ActionAid Afghanistan (AAA) has received approval for the next phase of its activities under the OSRO/129(203)/ASB project in Balkh province. This marks the beginning of the planning process for the implementation of a crucial de-worming injection program aimed at safeguarding the health and well-being of livestock in the region.

A total of 1,900 households, consisting of livestock keepers, will benefit from the de-worming injections. These injections will be administered to a combined total of 12,548 sheep and goats, as well as 2,799 cattle and cows. The districts of Charkint, Kishendih, and Zari have been identified as key areas for the program.

To ensure the effective administration of the injections, locally educated veterans have been engaged for the task. AAA has contracted these veterans for a period of 20 days. Their role in delivering the de-worming injections to livestock is vital in ensuring the health and protection of the animals.

The distribution of the de-worming injections will be carried out as follows: Charkint district will cover 650 households, Kishendih district will cover 600 households, and Zari district will cover 650 households. By targeting these areas, the program aims to reach a significant number of livestock keepers and provide them with essential protection against diseases that may arise during the cold wave and spring period in the pastures.

As the planning process commences, the project team remains fully committed to ensuring the successful execution of the de-worming injection program. By safeguarding the health of livestock, the project seeks to enhance the livelihoods of livestock keepers in Balkh Province and contribute to the overall growth and sustainability of the agricultural sector.
