Cash-for-work does more than create income

Cash-for-work does more than create income, it restores self-confidence, purpose, and hope. When people can rely on what they earn through their efforts, they believe in their own ability and feel motivated to contribute more. It also supports social stability by keeping communities productively engaged, bringing mental relief through a renewed sense of dignity and empowerment.

Cash-for-work strengthens the economic triangle: steady income for families, local skills through skilled employment, and sustainable community needs through shared infrastructure.

To respond to these needs, ActionAid Afghanistan, with support from UNDP, is implementing UNDP-ABADEI in Logar province. Over 21 days, the project mobilized 44 laborers, including 10 skilled and 34 unskilled workers, to support vital construction works that help improve water management and agricultural benefits for the community.

Local worker Anees Gull shared: “While we are earning for our families, we are building our society. This gives me a sense of empowerment, and I am happy when I see that I am engaged in activities that are for our community development.

Working alongside community members and local authorities, the project has also received strong requests to expand cash-for-work opportunities furtherو reflecting the clear and growing demand for continued support.
