Empowering women & girls and promoting diversity, inclusion & equity (DIE)

Advancing women’s rights and gender equality in Afghanistan has been a generational struggle, with women, children, people with disabilities (PWDs), and youth facing systemic challenges. ActionAid, Afghanistan (AAA) is committed to addressing these issues by promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity (DIE), tackling gender-based violence (GBV), and providing mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to marginalized groups.

To strengthen community-based protection, AAA trains staff, establish trauma support groups, develop gender-sensitive MHPSS programs, and reduce mental health stigma through awareness campaigns. These efforts are integrated into broader initiatives in education, livelihoods, and WASH to ensure inclusivity. Economic empowerment is another key focus, with support for women and youth through vocational training, business grants, and market linkages to promote sustainable livelihoods.

AAA also aims to increase women’s participation in decision-making by fostering community dialogue, funding gender equality programs, and creating safe spaces for women. Further, it strengthens women-led organizations through technical and financial support to amplify their advocacy for gender equality and social justice.

Our ultimate vision is to build an inclusive society where women, youth, and marginalized groups have equitable access to services, a voice in decision-making, and the ability to enjoy equal rights. By integrating gender equality and inclusion into all programs, AAA strives for a future defined by empowerment, equity, and holistic well-being for everyone.
