Kamenj Bridge Reconstruction Brings Hope to Ghor Province Residents

Kamenj Bridge Reconstructed by AAA in Ghor province

Ghor Province    – the construction and rehabilitation work are currently underway on the vital Kamenj Bridge, a key infrastructure project being implemented under the Ghor Flood Emergency Response Project's Cash for Work initiative by ActionAid, Afghanistan with financial support of The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The bridge, which suffered severe damage from seasonal floods, serves as a crucial connection point for Kamenj village and surrounding areas in Shahrak district. Its destruction had created significant hardships for thousands of families living along both banks of the Harirod River, particularly affecting women and children who faced dangerous and time-consuming detours to reach schools and healthcare facilities.

Engineers have designed the new structure to measure 38 meters in length and 2.5 meters in width, with construction costs estimated at $33,000. The month-long project has mobilized a workforce of 60 skilled and 80 unskilled laborers, with local community members actively contributing both labor and construction materials, including cement.

Upon completion, the rebuilt bridge will dramatically improve transportation links for area residents, reducing travel times and restoring safe access to essential services. The project has generated strong local support, with community members enthusiastically participating in the reconstruction efforts.

The Kamenj Bridge reconstruction is one of four infrastructure projects being implemented under the Ghor Flood Emergency Response Project, demonstrating the ongoing commitment to rebuilding critical infrastructure in flood-affected regions of Afghanistan.
