FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: [2 September 2025] ActionAid Afghanistan Mourns Lives Lost and Calls for Urgent Humanitarian Response Following Devastating Earthquake in Eastern Afghanistan

This tragic event has left thousands of families, especially women, children, elderly, and people with disabilities, exposed to the elements, without access to safe shelter, clean water, food, or healthcare.
“The scale of this crisis is deeply distressing. These are communities that were already grappling with poverty, limited access to basic services, and displacement. The earthquake has pushed them further into vulnerability,” says Mr. Srikanta Misra Country Director of ActionAid, Afghanistan. “We extend our sincere condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and commit to working alongside affected communities in their time of need.”
Urgent Needs: ActionAid Afghanistan has identified the following immediate humanitarian needs among the affected populations:
- Emergency food supplies for displaced families
- Temporary shelter materials (tents, tarpaulins, blankets)
- Access to clean drinking water and hygiene kits
- Basic medical supplies and emergency health services
- Psychosocial support, particularly for children and women
- Protection mechanisms to prevent exploitation and abuse during displacement
How You Can Help: We urge donors, partners, and the international community to stand with the people of eastern Afghanistan and support our efforts to respond swiftly and effectively to this crisis. The scale of need is immense, and time is critical. To support ActionAid Afghanistan’s earthquake response efforts or to discuss partnership opportunities,
