ActionAid Country Director Visits Nangarhar and Laghman to Assess Project Impact

During his visit, Mr. Misra toured several project sites across Behsood, Jalalabad City, Khugiani, Surkhroad, and other districts in Nangarhar and Laghman.
In Behsood district, he met with a Disaster Early Warning Committee (DEWC) established to enhance community preparedness for climate-related disasters. Committee members shared their experiences on how the initiative has strengthened early warning systems, reducing risks for vulnerable families.
He also visited a female model trader and food processor supported under the NLD/WEE project. This initiative has helped women entrepreneurs develop sustainable livelihoods by processing and selling food products, improving household incomes.
In Jalalabad City, he interacted with vulnerable women beneficiaries who received cash grants through the NLD/WEE project. These grants have enabled women to start small businesses, providing financial independence and security for their families.
In Surkhroad district, he engaged with Farmer Field School (FFS) members who have benefited from agricultural training and improved farming techniques. Farmers expressed their appreciation for the knowledge gained, which has led to increased crop productivity.
In Khugiani district, Mr. Misra inspected a rehabilitated greenhouse under the CBARD project and the newly constructed Ahamdkhil Canal by ActionAid. The greenhouse has significantly improved vegetable production, while the canal has enhanced irrigation systems, benefiting dozens of farming households by ensuring a steady water supply.
In Mehtarlam district, Laghman, the Country Director visited a newly established 2-jerib orchard under the CBARD project. This initiative has provided farmers with sustainable income opportunities while contributing to environmental conservation.
He also met with a female processing group supported under the CBARD initiative in Mehtarlam. Engaged in food processing and packaging, the group has empowered women economically and improved market access for their products.
Throughout his visit, Mr. Misra actively engaged with project beneficiaries, encouraging them to continue their efforts and providing recommendations to enhance project sustainability and impact.
Towards the end of the visit, he met with officials from the Directorates of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (DAIL) and the Directorates of Economy (DoE) in both Nangarhar and Laghman.
The three-day visit provided valuable insights into the effectiveness of ActionAid’s interventions in Nangarhar and Laghman. Mr. Misra commended the team for their dedication and encouraged further efforts to strengthen community resilience and sustainable development in the region.
